An Emotional Sig Hansen Questions Fishing Trip After Hearing Surprising News on ‘Deadliest Catch’
On the Season 13 premiere of Deadliest Catch, despite having had a massive heart attack at the end of last season, Captain Sig Hansen planned to return to the fleet for another season of fishing.
Before shipping out to the Bering Sea, he received some surprising news from his wife, June: He was going to be a grandpa, via his daughter Nina. Hansen seemed genuinely surprised by the new information, and the surprise gave way to joy. Hansen said he knew something was amiss when he had dinner with his daughter: “I thought there was something funny, because when we went out to dinner … Nina didn’t have any wine.”
June was hoping the news would cause Hansen to reconsider his plans to fish this season — and it did for a moment. But Hansen told his wife, “I mean, let’s be realistic here. I’m a fisherman — that’s it. It’s my boat, and I think I have to prove it to myself.”
Deadliest Catch airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
