Emmy Talk: ‘Better Call Saul’ Star Rhea Seehorn Breaks Down Season 2’s Big Confrontation
As we enter Emmy season — nomination voting runs through June 27 — Yahoo TV will be spotlighting performances, writing, and other contributions that we feel deserve recognition.
Warning: This interview contains spoilers for Season 2 of Better Call Saul.
The whole Better Call Saul cast, of course, is Emmy-worthy for their Season 2 performances, but there are few scenes that better capture the nomination deservedness of supporting actress Rhea Seehorn than this gem from the sophomore season’s penultimate episode, “Nailed.”
Seehorn chose it as her “scene to remember”: that moment when Chuck (Michael McKean) calls out Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) on his latest scheme — framing his perfectionist brother Chuck to make it look like Chuck made a typographical error so his legal client will hire Kim as its counsel instead.
Everyone in the room knows what Chuck is accusing Jimmy of is true — or likely true, at least — though all three of them also know Chuck has no evidence to back up his claims. Kim (Seehorn) says such accusations could mean dire consequences for Jimmy, while Chuck is incredulous that Kim could defend this act, which could also lead to dire consequences for Chuck (as we viewers know, it almost led to life-threatening consequences for him).

“All of the characters in this world are having these internal struggles that are being forced on them with external circumstances of what, exactly, is right and wrong, and how do you follow your own path,” Seehorn says. She particularly loves the scene for her character because, even as Kim forces Chuck to face his own insecurities and poor treatment of his brother, “I love that they maintain Kim’s reservedness.”

The scene, also an example of McKean’s stellar work as the polarizing Chuck from Season 2, was particularly a fun one to watch, and read Twitter reaction to, Seehorn says, adding that there were “a lot of people shouting, ‘Yeah! Screw Chuck!’”
Better Call Saul Season 2 is available on Amazon Video.
