Deck Boss Fired on ‘Deadliest Catch’ After Cancer Scare Reveals Another Problem
It was a scary time for the Summer Bay deck boss Nick McGlashan on Deadliest Catch as he thought he might have a deadly disease. Nick told Captain Wild Bill, “The doctors said that my white blood cell count is, like, really high — it’s, like, cancerous.” So Wild Bill took Nick to the doctor to run more tests and, much to their relief, the tests showed that Nick did not have cancer.
But it wasn’t smooth sailing for Nick after that. Even though Nick was cancer-free, Wild Bill soon realized that his deck boss still had a serious problem.
Wild Bill knew that something was wrong with Nick, and when he showed up wasted, Wild Bill found out exactly what was wrong with him. Wild Bill found what looked like heroin in Nick’s stuff, and it was the final straw for him. The Summer Bay captain said, “I’ve given Nick the benefit of the doubt, what, 30 times? But this time was f***ing different.”
So they packed up Nick’s things, and Wild Bill headed out to sea without him. It was a difficult decision, but one that Wild Bill had to make. The captain explained his thought process, saying, “The whole idea of buying this boat was to make it a family business. But kids are kids, and sometimes, business and family do not mix.”
Deadliest Catch airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
