‘Big Little Lies’ Trailer: Watch HBO’s Murderous Moms Of Monterey
“So we’re, like, seriously using the word murder?” Indeed they are, as this trailer for HBO’s upcoming limited series Big Little Lies makes very clear. Debuting February 19 at 9 pm ET/PT, the seven-episode series is based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel about three mothers of first-graders whose perfect lives unravel in the most shocking ways. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, Adam Scott, Zoe Kravitz, James Tupper and Jeffrey Nordling, the dark dramedy is set in wealthy Monterey, California. “This is Monterey,” says Witherspoon’s Madeline to the clique’s newcomer Jane (Shailene Woodley), “we pound people with nice.” Adds Kidman’s flippant Celeste, “To death.”
The best line in the trailer, though, has to be Witherspoon’s snarky jibe at Laura Dern’s character. Introducing newcomer Jane, Witherspoon says, “She’s not a nanny – she’s a mom. She’s just young, like you used to be.” Yep, murder is in the air.
All seven episodes are directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) from scripts by David E. Kelley. The series is executive produced by Witherspoon, Kidman, Kelly, Vallee, Bruna Papandrea, Per Saari, Nathan Ross and Gregg Fienberg. Barbara Hall and Liane Moriarty produce.
