Madonna’s sartorial choices are often divisive: you love them or you hate them, but you can’t deny they make a statement. For this year’s Met Gala, she chose to shock by wearing a pretty traditional gown?at least for Madonna standards. Still, the customized black Moschino gown alluded to the singer’s own “rebel” spirit with an allover “Rebel Heart” graffiti print.

The namesake of the ?Anna Wintour Costume Center,? who arrived with her daughter, Bee Shaffer, was in a red ankle-length gown covered in floral epaulettes and organza oversized shoulders.

The co-chair of the gala and of beautiful exhibition, ?China: Through the Looking Glass,? Wendi Murdoch looked dazzling in a royal blue gown. The satin dress showed the appropriate amount of skin ? at 46 she looked half her age ? and the intricate floral beading on the dress matched the fauna in her hair.
It’s here! It’s here! The night the whole fashion industry looks forward to the most, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute benefit, also known as the Met Gala, has finally arrived. Imagine your senior prom, New Year’s, and your 21st birthday celebration all rolled into one, and you might begin to understand the excitement that surrounds this night. The party kicks off the Costume Institute’s spring exhibit, raising money in the meantime (those tables don’t come for free!), but it’s basically an excuse for everyone to dress up in a fancy interpretation of the theme and then party the night away. “China: Through the Looking Glass” is a theme with many wonderful interpretations — and definitely plenty of chances for things to go horribly wrong — but thankfully, everyone brought out their best red gowns, floral headpieces and for those too lazy to dress up, silk pajamas were a totally accepted look. Let’s take a look at the most important red carpet of the year!
