Vogue & the CFDA Announces 10 New Nominees
In an effort to support nascent talent, Vogue and the CFDA established a Fashion Fund 12 years ago. The annual effort brings together 10 designers and their collections, which undergo four months of “design and advertising challenges,” a runway show at the Chateau Marmont, and a final presentation in front of a tribunal of the industry’s top experts and editors leading up to a big reveal on November 2. The newest nominees were announced on Wednesday night at a rooftop soiree at the Jane Hotel.
In years past, the winner has been awarded $300,000 and the two runner-ups $100,000 each. This year, the fund—like the talent pool—has grown. The amounts have increased to $400,000 and $150,000, respectively. But what’s invaluable is also the yearlong mentorship that comes along with the win. (Just ask previous winners like Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School, Joseph Altuzarra, or Proenza Schouler.)
Here is the roster of this year’s (overwhelmingly male-dominated) class. (Thank god for the Brother Vellies’s Aurora James and Chromat’s Becca McCharen to represent the ladies!)
