This Year’s Cutest Oscars Dates, Brought to You by Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling

Some stars, like Matt Damon and John Legend, brought their spouses to the Oscars. Others, like Casey Affleck, flew solo. Still others opted to find their dates over the family dinner table.

Chris Evans was one of those keeping it in the family: Captain America brought one of his sisters, Shanna Evans, as his date to the Oscars.

And Ryan Gosling did not bring his better half, Eva Mendes, despite speculation that the two would finally appear together in public — especially given that he thanked her during his recent Golden Globes speech. Instead, Gosling’s sister, Mandi Gosling, was his Oscars-night date.

The mom of Lion star Dev Patel, Anita Patel, kept getting emotional on the red carpet as she watched her son do the media rounds. It’s hard to fault her, given the reception his movie has gotten.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has wanted to bring his mom to the Oscars ever since he was a 10-year-old kid. And finally, his dream came true, thanks to Moana. His mother, Luz Towns-Miranda, watched Gilmore Girls en route to the Academy Awards, he tweeted. Hard to get cuter than that.
