This Easy Scarf-Tying Technique Makes ANY Outfit Chic

At this point, you’d have to be living under a rock not to have noticed that the neckerchief made a major comeback this year. It’s a favorite of celebs like Olivia Palermo, and street style stars like Leandra Medine. And whether you use a decadent Hermès silk scarf or a traditional cotton paisley bandana, the neckerchief can add Parisian chic or rock ‘n’ roll edge to any outfit. It’s an instant outfit elevator.

Still have that scarf from your Girl or Boy Scout days lying around? Now’s the time to take it out and give it new life! Ahead, we’ll show you 5 easy steps to achieve instant chic.

Step 1:

Lay your square scarf flat and fold in half diagonally. Then, starting at the corner, fold to your desired width. (Pro tip: Think about how wide you want your finished scarf to look, and start your folds smaller than that, since the width will widen as you fold!)

Step 2:

Place neckerchief around your neck like so. Then, pull the right tail down a bit to make it longer the the left. Then, place the right (longer) tail over the short one and loop it under to create a knot.

Step 3:

Take the top tail and pull it down over the bottom tail.

Step 4:

Take the top tail and loop it under the bottom tail, then take the top tail and pull it through the loop to create a simple knot.

Step 5:

Adjust the knot and tails to your satisfaction and there you have it! A chic and elegant neckerchief.

All done!

This handy style hack works with every look. A handkerchief adds charm to jeans and a T-shirt. Or try a silk scarf with a dress instead of a necklace for an unexpected and elegant evening look.
