The Little Black Dress Gets Belted in Paris

Certain things just go hand in hand like wine and cheese, fine jewelry and fur, and the little black dress and Paris.

It is day three of Paris Fashion Week and I have seen heavy embellishment, rich brocade, and sparkly fringe that could rival any of the ladies of the Moulin Rouge. What has been standing out in a sea of all the above? The updated little black dress, worn with a simple belt. Sure, the silhouette of these little black numbers are not as overtly sexy as usual, but this is 2015 and we are looking at the creme de la creme of fashion here, not your average high street store. The long sleeve is a must, it is the golden rule of dressing and contrast is key. If the length is above the knee, make sure the top is covered! Here are my favorite three examples so far:

Anthony Vaccarello—the designer who makes clothes that are sexy, tight, and usually feature plunging necklines. The girls who wear Vaccarello like to party and have fun. His version of the new LBD is long sleeve with a deep V neckline, revealing an unstitched hem and metal tube fringing. The belt is a simple thin metal pin. This is the cool girl’s new LBD.

Roland Mouret—the man who gave us the ultra sexy, body hugging Galaxy dress back in the day is doing what he does best. His LBD has a more of an exposed shoulder but the long sleeve and the slight A-line skirt make this dress that is perfect for the more sophisticated lady who parties, but also likes to be up in time for Pilates.

Carven—The collection was simply gorgeous under the new creative team of Adrien Caillaudaud and Alexis Martial. Their LBD is for the smart girls who like fashion…a lot. The simple gathering of the top and the texture on the skirt makes this look the perfect day-to-night dress.
