Pharrell Wears Knee-High Boots in Chanel’s Spring Ads
Lederhosen are so hot right now. Pharrell, Cara Delevingne, and Hudson Kroenig star in Chanel’s spring ads, channeling the traditional Austrian uniform (or, in Hudson’s case, actually wearing the whole look), in honor of the brand’s newest collection. Delevingne’s knee-high, bow-covered shoes are layered on top of red and blue socks while Pharrell’s lace-up green boots cover a classic pair of corduroys.
Despite his well documented love of fashion, this marks Pharrell’s first luxury campaign. The rapper collaborated with Delevingne and Karl Lagerfeld on a short film last year, in honor of Chanel’s Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d’Art collection. He played an elevator conductor to Delevingne’s beer maid in the seven minute video, which found the two escaping to an alternate reality in which he’s Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria, and she Empress Elisabeth of Austria. But the duo looks thoroughly modern in the official ads.
A Chanel campaign isn’t even the height of fashion fame for Pharrell this year. The rapper, who turned a Vivienne Westwood hat iconic and famously wore Celine in GQ, has his own collection, Billionaire Boys Club, and collaborates with Adidas and G-Star on a raw denim collection. And in June, he’ll take home the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award.
