It’s too bad that the Sex and the City 3 rumors proved to be untrue as filming would have dovetailed perfectly with Spanish shoe guru Manolo Blahnik’s first line of handbags. As WWD reported today, the collection of six bejeweled clutch bags will be sold this Fall for $1,725 to $1,925 at the designer’s eponymous boutiques in New York and London as well as Liberty, Harrods, and Brown Thomas and in markets including Italy, Sweden and Germany.
“Every woman needs a jewel — something very special and beautiful,” said the designer. “There is nothing more stunning than a feminine hand holding a gemlike object.”
Though Blahnik has designed bags before — usually one offs to match his shoes —these satin and crepe de chine beauties mark the first time that he has created an official handbag line. The pieces became a reality following the designer’s visit to a trip to a factory just outside of Florence that was able to realize his vision. Each bag features a crystal Hangisi buckle, which is a nod to his famous footwear.
Those who don’t have a black tie gala on the horizon, don’t fret. The designer also plans to create day bags down the road.
