Jennifer Lawrence Transformed From Sweet to Sexy in One Night
Jennifer Lawrence managed to go from sophisticated to sexy faster than you can spell F-A-S-H-I-O-N.
The actress served as co-chair of Monday night’s Met Ball. (Why? Anna Wintour emailed her, and “nobody can say no to Anna Wintour.”) And while the editor-in-chief of Vogue and creative director of Condé Nast assigns celebrities and designers together for the evening, often creating unlikely pairings that result in something beautiful — just look at Amal Clooney in John Galliano, or Chrissy Teigen in St. John — Lawrence just couldn’t break away from her beloved Dior.
For fashion’s biggest night, Dior designer Raf Simons dressed his biggest fan in a dress from his spring 2015 couture collection, modified from the runway to reach the floor. The gown featured a black column skirt attached to floral top that showed off just a little solar plexus skin. Another beaded piece was attached to the chest, creating interesting cutouts. The florals and top knot all subtly played into the night’s theme of “China: Through the Looking Glass.”
But while the 24-year-old’s first look of the evening was perfectly lovely and elegant, it was the second that was the real winner of the night. The stiff silhouette worn on the red carpet was switched out for a slinky, silver slipdress—much more youthful. Designed by Galvan, the $1750 dress was all at once sexy, black tie-apropos, and comfy. To top it off, Lawrence let her hair down and showed off her new surfer girl extensions, threw on a choker necklace (just like Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez did) and added a diamond encrusted cuff to each wrist.
Each of Lawrence’s getups had its own highlights: The Dior was couture, classy and… Dior (which deserves a point based on the name, alone), while the Galvan gown, which she wore to both Lady Gaga and Rihanna’s get-togethers (plus dinner with Lorde) was light, easy, and cool. Which one was best? You decide!
