Teenager Sends Message to Haters Body-Shaming Her Prom Pics

One high school senior has captured the Internet’s attention, thanks to a prom photo of her posing with “the loml” (yes, that’s “the love of my life”).

Madison, who goes by @madisonfaithhh_ on Twitter, shared a pre-prom photo of herself in a pink sequined dress which perfectly matched her boyfriend’s pink bowtie and boutonnière. The photo is a quintessential prom picture, but thanks to social media, it’s become a rallying cry.

When one person commented, “Wow he loves you even tho you’re fat,” people immediately started defending Madison. The photos already have more than 33,000 retweets and 100,000 likes, with plenty of responses from haters and fans alike.

Madison responded to the troll’s comment with the simple statement, “Don’t see how people can be rude to people they don’t even know.”

After Madison called attention to the troll, plenty of kindhearted strangers responded to let her know just how meaningless the comment was. “Your dress is everything! You look beautiful, girl,” one commenter said. Another agreed: “Girl slay!!! That dress. That hair. Those glasses! Damn no wonder that boy looking at you that way.”

In a welcome palate cleanser from the hateful comments, Madison has started retweeting some of the many compliments she’s gotten on her dress, her poses, and even her boyfriend.

Her final statement on the matter? Love is stronger than hate. As she wrote in a note posted to Twitter, “Only a few negative tweets compared to the hundreds of loving ones.” She’s hoping her experience will inspire others to see through the negative words to the loving messages. “I’m glad I could be an outlet for ‘bigger girls’ by not wearing a stereotypical size for my dress,” she continued. “So happy to know I’m inspiring many of you beautiful women to be more confident in yourselves. No matter what you do, someone will always hate on you. Use negativity as positive energy. Spread love not hate.”

Even as a high school senior, she has the perspective to realize that no one else’s opinions about her body matter — now that’s a good education.
