High School Student Dresses Up as a Ken Doll to Ask Date to Prom
High school students resort to outlandish methods to land dates for prom. Two students recently got spray tans to ask their girlfriends to prom, while another wooed his date with a dancing horse. A senior at Enka High School in North Carolina asked his classmate to prom by channeling a famous toy doll.
Christopher Bang dressed up as a version of Mattel’s famous Ken doll to ask his date, Jade Duncan, to the prom. He posted a photo on Instagram of himself wearing a bathing suit while standing in a box adorned with a sign featuring the name of the doll. Duncan posed alongside him holding another sign that read “Barbie.”

“Come on Barbie, let’s go party. #promposal #shoelessbarbie,” he captioned the image.
In order to pull off the promposal, the high schooler enlisted his date’s best friend to help orchestrate the details.
“I made all the props for it and I remained in constant contact with her best friend, Katie, to figure when she would be home,” he tells Yahoo Style. “Once she was home, I — with help from Katie — made my way to her house and set up the promposal. Katie called Jade for her to come out and then that’s how it went down.”
Bang was inspired to ask Duncan in such a way because of his nickname for her.
“I always call Jade — my date — Barbie, and it was only inevitable that I do a promposal related to that,” he tells Yahoo Style.
His followers seemed to love the idea, as his Instagram post received almost 1,000 likes. His classmates’ reactions to the promposal? “They thought that it was hilarious and was the best,” he says.
