Lady Cavs tennis wins on Senior Day
Oct. 4—Southern Lee tennis won for the seventh time this season on Monday, when Hoke County dropped in as the Lady Cavaliers' Senior Day opponent and left with a 9-0 loss.
Southern, now 7-4 overall and 7-3 in Sandhills Athletic Conference play, recognized seniors Evie Eller, Kate Jackson, Carrie Ellen Bryan and Maronie Petty before taking to the courts for their match. All of them played in at least one match against the Bucks and all walked off the courts with a win.
In singles, going down the order, Jackson beat Bailey Mass 8-3, Eller shut out Alyssa Pridgen 8-0, Blaire Young downed Kalea Parker 8-1, Bryan blanked Azari McLean 8-0, Logan Hickman defeated Savannah Stenrod 8-4, and Gina DeCerbo whitewashed Angie Lopez 8-0.
In the doubles, Jackson and Young beat Pridgen and Mass 8-1, Eller and Bryan topped Parker and McLean 8-3, and Petty and Cameron Collins defeated Stenrod and Lopez 8-3.
Pinecrest downs Lady Jackets
In another tennis match played Monday, Pinecrest defeated Lee County 8-1.
The Lady Jackets earned a point when Allie Johnson and Grace Britton teamed up at No. 1 doubles to beat Mollie Graffenberg and Emma Medina 8-6.
Lee and Southern will face each other for the second time this season on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., when the Lady Cavaliers will host the first night tennis match in school history.
