WNY Medical to pay over $250K after alleged improper Medicare billing
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Western New York Medical P.C. agreed to pay $251,477 to resolve allegations that it submitted improper Medicare billing for chronic care management services, the United States Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
The government alleges that WNY Medical, which has locations in Erie and Niagara counties, submitted false claims to federal health care programs between January 2020 and March 2023.
Officials said WNY Medical submitted the claims using terminology that requires clinical staff to provide at least 20 minutes of services per month.
For a portion of the encounters, the practice allegedly failed to provide that time of service during the month it billed Medicare for the services.
