Wilmington grilled cheese restaurant to open second location this weekend
Ever since opening as a food truck and then a storefront restaurant in Wilmington’s Cargo District, CheeseSmith has been a popular destination – with mentions on the Food Network and on this list of best eateries from Southern Living magazine.
Last year, the owners announced they would be expanding their grilled-cheese concept to the 1319 Military Cutoff Road in the Landfall Shopping Center.
And now that's happening. The owners announced on Instagram Friday that the new location is opening on Saturday, April 13.
The owners noted that the opening is taking place about eight months later than planned because of roof leaks, delays, personal health emergencies and literal blood, sweat and tears.
"We can finally sit back and laugh that our first restaurant we opened together during a pandemic took four months and the second took a year," the post stated. "Thanks for the support and patience."
The new location will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

The owners have previously expressed how much they love the Cargo District area and their restaurant at 624 S. 17th St., which opened in July 2021 but they've been looking forward to adding customers in another part of Wilmington.
Molly Curnyn, who owns the business with husband Brendan, said they’d like to continue to grow their CheeseSmith brand.
