This Wilmington bar won't be serving its popular fries after this weekend. Here's why.
A Wilmington bar will no longer be allowed to serve its popular fries following the passing of a new North Carolina law.
Sauce'd, located at 224 S. Water St., will stop serving fries effective Sunday, according to a Facebook post from the bar on Thursday. A few customers expressed disappointment at the upcoming change in the comments.
This announcement comes following the passing of House Bill 125, which subjects bars serving hot food to health inspections that they were previously exempt from under House Bill 768.
Sauce'd would have to take the steps to "legally become a full-service restaurant" if they were to continue serving food, according to the Facebook post, something that the local cocktail lounge has decided against.

"It was never our intention to become a restaurant, we were always meant to be a cocktail lounge with a killer snack," the post reads. "It’s incredibly frustrating and upsetting that we, along with dozens of other local establishments (and hundreds - if not thousands - across the state) are being put in this position, however, it is truly out of our hands."
Conditions of the new bill go into effect for North Carolina bars beginning Wednesday, March 27.
The Wilmington establishment concluded its Facebook announcement by expressing gratitude to its customers, adding it has been "an honor to be NC’s first and only cocktail lounge and fry bar." Sauce'd said it hopes to continue to "surprise and delight" its customers in the future.
