Wilmington bakery restaurant announces closing in Mayfaire shopping center
The owners of Atlanta Bread Company in Wilmington announced on social media that the restaurant will be closing. The restaurant has been in business at 6886 Main St. in the Mayfaire shopping center since 2004.
The note from Jon Bibb said when they went to renegotiate their lease recently, he and Andy Chatellier learned their space had already been leased.
“Over the next few months, we came to the difficult decision to close our doors this Sunday for good,” the post said. “The idea and cost of moving the store that we have put our heart and soul into for two plus decades was too hard and needed to come to and end.”

Bibb said that after Sunday, the business will continue to operate their catering side until May 12. They will start moving out after that. Bibb and Chatellier also thanked their customers and staff. The note was posted Tuesday evening, and as of Wednesday morning, it had more than 150 comments from fans and former employees.
“I can't thank Wilmington enough for the loyalty and kindness that you guys have showed two college buddies who moved here with a dream,” Bibb said. “It has been a rollercoaster of emotions but know that we appreciate all the kind words and love you have shown us.”
Atlanta Bread Company is a bakery-café, fast casual restaurant with more than a dozen locations. Bibb and Chatellier are featured on their website with the story of how the owners met in 1996 at the University of South Carolina and moved to Wilmington after graduation to open the business.
