Westfield man arrested after fleeing scene of collision, injuring 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Westfield man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly fled a collision that injured one person on Friday, and was found to be in possession of narcotics, Dunkirk police announced.
Just before 9 p.m., police said officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle, operated by 36-year-old Mark Baker, on the 300 block of Eagle Street in Dunkirk. When police identified Baker, he was found to be wanted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation.
Officials said police tried to take Baker into custody for the warrant when he fled south on Eagle Street in the vehicle. He allegedly disregarded traffic signals and didn’t yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling eastbound on W. 6th St. at the intersection of Eagle Street.
Baker’s failure to yield caused a serious collision and resulted in physical injury to the victim driving the vehicle along with damage to a fire hydrant, police said. He then allegedly fled on foot and was taken into custody.
Upon further investigation, police said they found over a half ounce of fentanyl and over one ounce of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, scales, packaging, narcotic pills and naloxone strips.
Baker was arrested and later remanded to court on a $50,000 cash bail/$100,000 bond.
