Trump supporters in Texas feel migrant caravans coming from Mexico are 'invading the country'
Once bitter foes, President Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz have developed nothing short of a political bromance. Trump headlined his “Make America Great Again” rally in front of more than 17,000 supporters at the Toyota Center in Houston on the first day of early voting in Texas for the 2018 midterms.
“You know, we had our little difficulties,” Trump said about his relationship with Cruz. “And then it ended and I’ll tell you what, nobody has helped me more with your tax cuts, with your regulation, with all of the things … including military and our vets, than Sen. Ted Cruz.”
But Trump’s mended relationship with Cruz was not the only spirited topic of the night. Trump chose to refocus on a key policy of his 2016 presidential run: immigration. This time, Trump launched a familiar attack and blamed Democrats for the migrant caravans in Mexico heading toward the U.S. “The Democrats have launched an assault on the sovereignty of our country, the security of our nation and the safety of every American,” Trump said.
Many supporters agreed with Trump’s stance on the migrant caravans. “If you come across our borders illegally, then you’re invading our country,” said one supporter wearing a Trump red MAGA cap.
Another Latina woman said she understands that migrants want to come into the U.S., because her grandfather once came into the country, but “he did it the right way.”
