Threat made toward Covington school deemed not credible, juvenile released
COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — A juvenile taken in for questioning in connection to a threat made toward a St. Tammany Parish area school has been released.
On Wednesday, Sept. 18, the Covington Police Department alerted parents and students that there was a police presence on campus after a threat of violence was made toward Covington High School via social media.

Officers said the person had been taken in for questioning and ensured police would stay on the campus throughout the day as a precautionary measure. They released the following statement:
“Please be assured that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of everyone at Covington High School. If you have any concerns or information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us,” said Covington police.
Around 1:22 p.m. officers reported the juvenile had been released to their parents without charges. An investigation revealed the threat was “unsubstantial and that there is no credible threat at this time.”
“We take all threats seriously and will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our schools and residents. We are also aware of current post which state that a shooting occured at the school. Those posts are completely FALSE,” said Covington police.

This comes the same week that another juvenile was arrested for an alleged bomb scare reported at a New Orleans area high school on Monday, Sept. 16.
