NEED TO KNOW
SCOTUS preserves abortion pill access
The Supreme Court unanimously preserved access to mifepristone, one of two drugs used in the majority of medication abortions. It was the court’s first abortion decision since overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022.
The ruling: The justices said abortion opponents lacked the legal right to sue over the FDA’s approval of the medication, as they did not show that they had been harmed by the availability of abortion pills. [AP]
What it means: The FDA’s existing guidelines around expanded abortion pill access will remain in effect for now, including allowing women to obtain the pill within 10 weeks of gestation instead of seven. [NBC News]
What’s next: The case is likely to be revived with different plaintiffs. Three GOP-led states successfully petitioned to join the case at the lower court level months ago. [New York Times]

3 QUESTIONS
...about Inside Out 2
Pixar’s coming-of-age movie Inside Out 2 is in theaters. I talked to entertainment reporter Laura Clark about how it differs from its 2015 predecessor.
Lily: What’s this sequel about?
Laura: Inside Out 2 revisits Riley and her emotions, but now she’s a teen navigating different friendships. New emotions, led by Anxiety (voiced by Maya Hawke), join the headquarters inside Riley’s mind.
Lily: You wrote that the director sought advice from teen girls. Why take that extra step?
Laura: Director Kelsey Mann told me that because he isn’t a teen himself, he wanted to keep the story authentic. The girls were dubbed “Riley’s Crew” and gave feedback on what resonated and what didn’t.
Lily: Is it worth a watch?
Laura: I definitely think so! Inside Out 2 is very family-friendly, and I found that it tackles awkward emotions in an accessible, funny and visually vibrant way.
