Flooding potential along with impactful midweek storm
FLOOD WATCH for all of Western New York remains in effect until 1:00 p.m. Thursday.
WIND ADVISORY will be in effect from 5 a.m. till 1 p.m. Wednesday for Southern Erie and Chautauqua counties.
An area from Lewiston to Castile southward has a marginal chance of an isolated severe thunderstorm with potentially damaging wind gusts Wednesday. The area from south of Ripley to Mt. Jewett, PA southward could deal with scattered severe thunderstorms.
A deepening major storm travels northward into the Great Lakes Wednesday-Thursday. Unseasonable warmth continues Wednesday as we will be on the warm side of the storm. That combined with a soaking rainfall, possibly between 0.30-0.75″, and possible ice-jams, some rivers, creeks, and streams may exceed bankfull.
Strong wind gusts to 45-50 mph will be possible especially along the Erie shore from the south Wednesday, then gusts around 50 mph Thursday afternoon on a southwest to west flow behind the passage of a strong cold front. Those stronger gusts will affect areas farther northward across the Niagara Frontier. Colder air pours in Thursday and will be accompanied by some snow showers especially by the afternoon. A more seasonable pattern is shaping up this weekend.
