Strictly: Matt Goss says he does not regret returning to UK as he is voted off show

Matt Goss has said he does not regret returning to UK to take part in Strictly Come Dancing, after becoming the third celebrity to leave the show.

The When Will I Be Famous? singer – who rose to fame with 1980s boy band Bros – said the support of his fans on social media had giving him comfort and made him feel like he was "home".

Goss, 54, spoke out for the first time since his departure on Twitter writing: "Just taking the day to decompress. I came on social media not knowing what to expect and I am completely humbled, and to be honest with you, very emotional at the outpouring and kindness that I have received. We are all complex, thank you for recognising my heart."

"Strictly was out of my comfort zone but I did gain so much from the experience. This moment alone… reading your comments has given me a sense of deep comfort. It was an incredibly big decision to come back to the UK. Thank you for making me feel like I’m home."

The singer had been starring in his own Las Vegas show for 11 years before signing up to the BBC dance contest.

He added: "Thanks Nadiya Bychkova for your continued grace & patience. Not only are you a World Champion, you’re a world class teacher! If any of you see me out & about please come say hello. Tonight definitely feels like I have an extended family. My deepest love & thanks, Matt."

Goss landed in the dance-off at the weekend, opposite former pop star and soap actor Kym Marsh.

Goss had been bottom of the leaderboard after dancing the Jive to Elvis Presley's All Shook Up, while Marsh's Samba to Volare by Gipsy Kings had earned a respectable 32/40.

Following the dance-off all four judges chose to save Marsh and send Goss home.

Goss became emotional as he said: "It’s an extraordinary experience, I have been in America for 25 years. Thank you judges for your candour, you’ve helped me in many ways."

Earlier in the week, a friend of Goss had complained about Craig Revel Horwood.

Rob Ferguson said: "There is no consistency and no correlation between comments versus votes. I’m losing my faith in the legitimacy of BBC’s Strictly."

Ferguson then singled out Craig Revel Horwood for his particularly harsh scores: "I cannot reconcile Craig’s descending score for Matt from week one – 5, 4, 3. There’s no question he has improved."

The singer had previously revealed Strictly had saved him from from an unhealthy place in his life.

He said: "I've been asked to do the show a few times. But this year, in an unhealthy way I was becoming reclusive in my world of doing shows, concerts and touring.

"I felt myself going into a not very good place and it already feels better to have made the decision."

The singer lost his mother Carol to breast cancer in 2014 after moving her out to Los Angeles to care for her. He also cared for his stepfather Tony for four years after her death, while continuing to star in his residency at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

Goss said: "I lost my mum and I steamed through my grief with my work. Because of that, I just missed London and said, 'I want to go home'.

"And a week or two after that Strictly called and it just felt like a sign. I could either go back to that reclusive place or I could do it and get out of my own way."
