Small earthquake in Northeast Ohio on Wednesday

LAKELINE, Ohio (WJW) — The United States Geological Survey reported a 1.8-magnitude earthquake about three miles off the shore of Lake Erie on Wednesday morning.

Lake County’s 29th earthquake of 2024 happened at about 9:30 a.m., about 3 miles from Lakeline village, according to data from the USGS.

It happened at a depth of about 5 kilometers, or a little more 3 than miles.

Local couple wins big on scratch-off — twice

Earthquakes below a 2.0 magnitude are called “microearthquakes” and are not commonly felt, according to the USGS. Five people in Eastlake reported feeling the quake to the USGS, data shows.

Lake County has had 28 other earthquakes so far this year, including a 2.8-magnitude earthquake in June, which is the most seismically intense recorded so far this year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
