Posner described himself and Big Sean as two Detroit “sparks” ready to burn.
“I didn’t know I could have this life. I didn’t know I could be the man I am today. ‘Til Sean showed me,” Posner said in the video.
Detailing their relationship with each other’s parents, Posner also mentioned the Blessings rapper’s nickname for his late father — Daddy Pose. He continued to give Big Sean kudos for changing his life after he secured a record deal and for opening the door for Posner to become a well-received artist.
During Big Sean’s performance on Friday at Coachella, the rapper brought out Posner to perform his hit single Cooler Than Me. Afterward, he stopped the show to honor Pose’s father, who died from brain cancer.
“When we were backstage saying a prayer before we came out, all I could think about was your dad. I know you lost your dad to brain cancer, to cancer, and I just want to say, he’s definitely watching over us right now. I could definitely feel his energy,” Big Sean said. “You know you’re family to me. My mom is like your mom. Your mom is like my mom, and honestly, bro, 15-year-old, 16-year-old us, 18-year, 19-year-old us, I would never have thought we’d be on Coachella right now and having this moment, sharing this moment, but I love you so much man.”
At the end of the clip, Posner acknowledged that Big Sean’s friendship changed his life.
“There we stood, two Detroit sparks had become two wildfires,” he said.
