Sheriff: Man flees from police in Wisconsin, dies after crashing into an SUV in Illinois
NEWPORT, Ill. (WFRV) – A southern Wisconsin man reportedly died after fleeing from police in Wisconsin and crashing into an SUV in Illinois.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois, on July 6 around 4:30 p.m., deputies responded to a reported crash with injuries. When authorities got to the scene, two vehicles were found with ‘major’ damage.
A preliminary investigation reportedly showed that a 32-year-old man from Salem, Wisconsin was driving a stolen vehicle in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Police in Pleasant Prairie reportedly found the stolen vehicle and tried to stop the driver.

However, the driver allegedly fled at a ‘high rate of speed’ and police were able to successfully use a tire-deflating device. Officials say that even though one of the vehicle’s tires was deflated, the driver kept fleeing at a high rate of speed.
After police discontinued the chase, the driver still reportedly drove ‘recklessly and excessively fast’.
Authorities say that the driver of the stolen vehicle ignored a red light and collided with a GMC Yukon. The driver of the stolen vehicle reportedly died.
The release mentioned that a 51-year-old passenger of the Yukon was critically injured and was sent to a hospital. The driver of the Yukon as well as six rear passengers had non-life-threatening injuries.
There is an autopsy on the driver reportedly scheduled. Police say that the driver of the stolen vehicle had a revoked driver’s license and an active arrest warrant out for possessing methamphetamine and was a suspect in ‘several’ burglaries.
