SHEBOYGAN – Residents in the Sheboygan Area School District received a survey in the mail asking for their input on the proposed rebuilds of Urban and Farnsworth middle schools and their opinions about the district.

Earlier this year, SASD announced plans for a referendum to a rebuild both Urban and Farnsworth middle schools. The $140 million project was proposed by the district because the nearly century-old buildings need extensive repairs and upgrades.

The survey is intended to give residents information about the rebuild project and receive their opinions on whether they would support a referendum to fund the project, their satisfaction with SASD and more.

The survey is intended for residents in the SASD, but some people in nearby districts may have received the survey because of overlapping postal routes, the survey packet said.

While the version of the survey sent to mailboxes is in English, translated copies in Hmong and Spanish can be requested by calling 920-803-7770 and 920-459-3698, respectively.

What information is in the survey packet?

The packet sent to residents’ mailboxes includes information about reasons SASD is proposing a rebuild, a timeline of facility projects leading to the proposal, tax mill rate charts, funding information and plans for the new middle schools.

What questions are asked in the survey?

Questions SASD is asking residents of the district range from specific questions about supporting the referendum to open-ended opportunities to supply comments and concerns.

Some of the specific questions in the packet include the following:

  • Would you support a $126 million referendum to fund the recommended plan?

  • If you would not support the capital referendum, what are your reasons?

  • On a scale of 0-10, how likely would you be to recommend the district to a friend or family member?

  • In which middle school attendance area do you live?

How do I complete the survey?

The survey can be completed online or by writing on the packet itself and returning it.

To complete online, residents can scan the QR code on the front page of the packet or go to Feedback2000.com. The website will ask for a survey code, which can be found beside the QR code on the survey packet.

To submit a physical version of the survey, residents can write directly on the packet and deliver the packet to any school office or mail it to School Perceptions, P.O. Box 607, Slinger, WI 53086.

A business reply mail envelope with the address is included in packets so residents don’t need to worry about postage or envelope costs.

While each household received only one survey and online code, additional surveys for other adults in the home can be received by calling 920-459-3511.

Why is the address not affiliated with SASD?

For confidentiality purposes, all survey responses are being collected by an independent education research firm called School Perceptions, according to the SASD website.

When is the survey due?

The survey must be completed by May 22.

What will happen with the survey results?

Results of the survey will be reported during the June 25 Board of Education meeting and will be available online on the SASD website.

Feedback given in the survey will be used by the district to make plans regarding the future of the project.
