SF man who threatened to kill janitor with pipe convicted: DA
(KRON) — San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced the conviction of 60-year-old Michael Dunn for threatening to kill a janitor with a large metal pipe on May 10. Dunn was officially convicted of criminal threats.
“San Franciscans recognize that there is no place for threatening people under any circumstances, but especially for doing their jobs,” the DA said.

According to the DA’s office, at about 8:10 a.m., janitorial staff were moving commercial garbage bins out of a garbage room in a residence on the 400 block of China Basin Street. While moving the bins, a janitor noticed Dunn inside the garbage room “holding a large metal pipe.”
After the janitor told Dunn that the room was restricted to employees, Dunn “dropped the pipe, picked up a larger 10-foot pipe and threatened to kill the victim while swinging the pipe,” the DA’s office said. The janitor, “having had previous hostile encounters with Mr. Dunn,” then hid behind a garbage bin “in fear for his life.”
San Francisco Police Department officers arrived shortly after, reviewed surveillance footage, and arrested Dunn.
“Our words have consequences, and no one deserves to be threatened with death or harm for simply doing their job,” said Assistant District Attorney Samantha Persaud.
Dunn is currently in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for July 18, the DA’s office said.
