San Diego Registrar of Voters in search of more poll workers
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Do you want to play a role in the November presidential general election while earning money? The Registrar of Voters is looking for more poll workers to be placed at vote centers located throughout the county.
On Wednesday, the Registrar’s office said it is particularly in search of poll workers who are bilingual in English and Chinese, Vietnamese or Filipino. In addition, individuals who are bilingual in English and Laotian are needed at select vote centers in the region.

The responsibilities of a poll worker include attending a two-day paid training with a $95 daily stipend, opening and closing a vote center, remaining politically neutral, answering voter questions, assisting a diverse population and providing excellent customer service.
Federal law requires the office to provide bilingual speakers and voting materials in Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese.
Meanwhile, state and county requirements include a need for Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Somali and Persian (Farsi and Dari) speakers at select vote centers throughout San Diego County.
Due to the Voter’s Choice Act, vote centers have replaced traditional polling locations and are open for an extended amount of time before Election Day. This means poll workers are now required to staff vote centers for up to 11 days in the two weeks leading up to Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Poll workers between Oct. 26 and Nov. 4 will receive a stipend of $145 for each day of service, according to the County of San Diego. In addition, on Election Day, poll workers will get a stipend of $240. Bilingual poll workers will receive an additional $5 for each day of service at the vote centers plus $10 on Election Day.

Poll workers must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and registered to vote in the state of California or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the country.
