RPD said that a new training officer was living at the apartment. That officer, Matthew Amezquita, had been told to go home to shave. He told officers that he had gone home, shaved, and returned to the police department before remembering he left his body camera at home. When he returned, he found the front door had been kicked in.
After collecting evidence at the scene, detectives interviewed Amezquita who admitted that he kicked the door in after locking himself out of the apartment. Amezquita was charged with making a false report.
