Pink to headline DNC tonight ahead of Kamala Harris’ nomination speech
Pop rock star Pink, otherwise knows as Alecia Beth Hart Moore from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, will headline the final night of the Democratic National Convention, as Vice President Kamala Harris accepts the party nomination for president.
The week, Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Lil Jon and Common are among the musicians who have played live at the convention in Chicago.
Last night, before the DNC's introduction of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, John Legend and Sheila E. played a lively tribute to Prince with "Let's Co Crazy."
Tonight's theme at the DNC is "For our Future." In addition to Harris tonight, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Rev. Al Sharpton, and former GOP Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger are all expected to speak.
Pink the Rock Star and activist?
Pink has long been a passionate activist for LGBTQ+ issues, abortion rights and women's rights, but this will be the most direct political stand she has taken on a national stage.
Back in 2006 her song "Dear Mr. President" asked then-President George Bush "What kind of father would hate his own daughter if she were gay?" In 2022, she released “Irrelevant" about racism and the fight for women's rights in America. In between she marched for gay rights and talked about LGBTQ+ issues in multiple interviews.
In 2023, at the height of the book-banning wave across schools in the country, Pink took action.
She teamed up with PEN America and handed out 2,000 banned books during two of her concerts in South Florida, much to the dismay of Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child, and that’s why I am unwilling to stand by and watch while books are banned by schools,” Pink said in a press release.
