Passenger viewers call ITV drama 'waste of time' as finale leaves questions
Viewers claimed the mystery wasn't resolved in the final episode of the show
What did you miss?
TV viewers have complained that ITV's Passenger was “a waste of time”, saying the finale failed to resolve the mystery.
The series - which had been billed as "the Stranger Things of the North" - followed Detective Inspector Riya Ajunwa (Wunmi Mosaku), who was tasked with looking into a missing person's case that wasn’t what it seemed, and was full of strange events. Many viewers admitted to being confused by all the different threads and twists and turns, but others were intrigued.
However, after the finale aired on Monday night (April 8), many said they didn’t feel that the ending cleared things up.
What, how, and why?
“Surely there’s got to be another episode of Passenger, how can it end like that, there was no conclusion to it ??” one said on X, adding the hashtag “#wewantanswers”.
Another said: “WAY too many ideas fighting for limited space. And the central mystery established in the pilot is only half solved by the end. So much potential, so little payout.”
“Came on to X to understand what happened in Passenger, only to find that no one f****** knows either pmsl,” said someone else. Another viewer posted: “I want compensation for a waste of 6 hours.”
“Can anyone explain what just happened?” asked one baffled fan. “What a rubbish ending. Nothing answered at all, more questions if anything.”
“That was incredibly disappointing, sick of all these dramas that leave everything on a cliffhanger and no resolution,” said another unimpressed viewer. Somebody else said it was a “daft ending”. “Where was the thing that escaped from the truck, what was killing the deer, what was the black stuff and what’s with all the red bins being pinched?” they added.
“What a waste of time that was wish I'd never bothered watching, six hours and I'm still no wiser,” remarked someone else.
Some viewers want second series of Passenger
Some viewers begged for a second series to provide some answers, but others said they wouldn’t be interested. Among the positive comments, one wrote: "Absolutely gripping. Brilliant acting all round. So pleased I kept going after the first very weird episode. There'd better be a series 2 though!!"
Another added: "Passenger was absolutely amazing, I hope there's a season two, it was one of the most well spent six hours of my life."
There were some viewers hoping for a second series, with one writing: “Binge watched all six episodes of Passenger. Brilliant cast. Very disappointed that no ending. Will there be a series 2?”
“Reactions to Passenger are pretty universal disgust at the not-ending and the waste of 6 hours of time invested,” said one person, calling it “a fail at basic storytelling”. “They can keep their Series 2,” they added.
