Orleans County Sheriff’s Office warns residents of phone scam
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A phone scam is currently circulating around Orleans County with scammers impersonating officials and asking for money, the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Scammers are allegedly claiming to be members of the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office who require electronic payments to clear outstanding warrants.
The sheriff’s office says they would never ask for payments to clear warrants. Those who receive one of these calls should not give away any of their personal or financial information and should hang up immediately instead.
Suspicious calls can be reported to the sheriff’s office at (585) 589-5527.
