One year after rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, Washington is still dealing with the aftermath and the political consequences. Supporters of former President Donald Trump broke into the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, ending up on the Senate and House chamber floors after causing widespread damage to the building.
Crowds had gathered to protest the certification of the 2020 presidential election, which declared Joe Biden the winner. Trump and other prominent conservatives held a rally at the Ellipse in Washington, encouraging supporters to march to the Capitol.
