North Tonawanda man sentenced for fatal stabbing
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A North Tonawanda man has been sentenced to two decades in prison for a fatal stabbing in 2023, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
John Rudes, 29, stabbed 59-year-old Terry Jackson to death in an apartment building on the 1000 block of Kenmore Avenue on Sept. 17, 2023. Jackson, who was stabbed in the neck, died at the scene.
Rudes pleaded guilty in January to first-degree manslaughter. He will also be subject to five years of post-release supervision.
Rudes was additionally sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison on a fourth-degree grand larceny charge.
It was found that he wrote several checks to himself from a checkbook belonging to a landscaping company he worked for in Depew, totaling $3,763. The checks were deposited at various banks between Dec. 7, 2022 and Jan. 12, 2023. The crime was reported in January 2023.
The sentence for the grand larceny will run concurrently to the manslaughter sentence. He also agreed to pay full restitution.
