No haircuts, no books, no banks; here’s what you can’t do on July 4
Independence Day is on Thursday this year, so it’s reasonable to think you’ll be able to get your typical workday errands done.
Supermarkets, convenience stores and big businesses will be open July 4, but not everything will be.
What’s closed July 4?
Here’s a list of things you likely won’t be able to do on the Fourth of July.
Visit government offices: Federal, state, and local government offices will be closed. This includes the motor vehicle offices, social services, and municipal offices.
Go to the bank: Most banks will be closed for the holiday, so plan any banking needs in advance.
Mail a package: USPS post offices will be closed, and there will be no regular mail delivery. Other services like FedEx and UPS may have modified hours or limited services.
Check out a library book: Public libraries typically close on Independence Day.
Go to class: Schools and universities will be closed if they are in session.
Visit the stock market: The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will not be open for trading.
Attend court: Courts will be closed, so any legal matters will have to wait.
Get a haircut or manicure: Many nail salons, barbershops, and beauty salons will be closed or have reduced hours. It’s best to check with your local salon or barbershop in advance.
Rely on public transit: Some public transportation systems may run on a holiday schedule, which typically means reduced service.
Dine at your favorite spot: While many chain restaurants and eateries in tourist areas may be open, some locally owned restaurants and cafes might close for the holiday.
Take care of Fido: Most veterinarian offices will be closed for the holiday, though emergency vet services may be available. National-chain pet stores may be open.
