Niagara County man sentenced for setting deputy’s car on fire
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara County man has been sentenced to four years in prison for setting a sheriff’s office patrol car on fire in 2023, the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
Schuyler Johnson, 53, and of Sanborn, pleaded guilty to one count of menacing a police officer.
Authorities said that Johnson was involved in a car accident on Mapleton Road in Wheatfield Dec. 23, 2023 that resulted in his vehicle overturning. When sheriff’s deputies responded, he allegedly set fire to one of the patrol cars and threatened a deputy with a knife.
Johnson’s speeding was the cause of the crash, officials said.
After getting out of prison, Johnson will be subject to three years of post-release supervision.
