Diddy jailed: After defense attorneys fought to keep Sean “Diddy” Combs out of jail for his sex trafficking arrest, the music mogul was sent back to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The facility has been the primary federal detention center since 2021, when the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan closed after a number of issues that were exposed after Jeffrey Epstein’s death. Problems plaguing the facility included lax security and crumbling infrastructure, the Associated Press reported. Details >
Bail denied: The rapper has been denied bail twice. On Wednesday, a judge ruled that Combs’ plan — which included a $50 million bail offer, GPS monitoring and strict limitations on visitors — was “insufficient” and no conditions could guard against the risk of him threatening or harming witnesses. Interest rate cut: The Federal Reserve has cut its benchmark interest rate for the first time in more than four years, which will have consequences for mortgage rates, car loans and credit card debt. The Fed’s half-point rate cut is a major strategic shift and a sign policymakers believe they’re winning the war against inflation. Wednesday’s cut lowers the federal funds rate into a range of 4.75% to 5%, down from its prior range of 5.25% to 5.5%. Read more >
What does the cut mean for me? The shift may seem subtle, but with more cuts expected, lower mortgage rates and better credit card rates could be on the horizon. Ultimately, the health of the overall economy will determine how much rates improve, but the Fed’s key interest rate will continue to affect Americans’ wallets.
