The Monkees' farewell tour hits Sun Arena Friday
Oct. 27—When was the last time all four Monkees in fact played together?
Was it to support the war effort in 1944? At the inauguration of President Kennedy? At the funeral of Jim Morrison?
It wasn't as the opening act for Rihanna's 2013 tour because, by then, original Monkees singer Davy Jones had passed — so then there could BE no more gigs with Jones and fellow founding members drummer/vocalist Mickey Dolenz, guitarist/vocalist Mike Nesmith and bassist/vocalist Peter Tork.
Sadly, two years ago (Connecticut native!) Tork died in 2019 — leaving only a duo of Monks.
Thankfully — for theirs is a fine legacy of groundbreaking sitcom television PLUS a lot of wonderfully and indelibly hummable pop tunes — survivors Dolenz and Nesmith have gathered some support players and are coming to the end of their Farewell Tour.
The show — featuring over 30 tunes including requisite and never-weary "Daydream Believer," "I'm a Believer," "Sunny Girlfriend," "Last Train to Clarksville," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "Tapioca Tundra" and more — takes place Friday in the Mohegan Sun Arena.
