Michelle Obama Really Wants to Go to Target When She Leaves the White House
The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, sat down with Stephen Colbert on the The Late Show Monday night and, with just over a year left in the White House, dreamt of what she’ll do when it’s time to go.
Number one on the bucket list? Being able to open windows, which she apparently doesn’t have the security clearance to do. “My lead agent let me have the windows open on the way to Camp David,” she said. “It was like five minutes out and he was like ‘the window’s open. Enjoy it!’ I was like, ‘thanks Allen.’” Additionally FLOTUS looks forward to the day when she can drive herself to Target — hopefully with the car windows down and the wind blowing in her hair. (Her love of the superstore is well documented: In 2011, the 51-year-old, who recently wore a custom Vera Wang gown to the China state dinner, was photographed in an Alexandria, Virginia, outpost in her mom gear—baseball cap, button down, jeans, and sneakers—picking up some essentials)
But before her husband’s second term is up and the family packs up to leave 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, she wants to see some movement on girls education, a cause she plans to continue fighting for when she has another address. On Saturday, she announced at the Global Citizen Festival in New York the #62MillionGirls initiative, which encourages people to take selfies, tag their photo with the hashtag, and share a story about what they learned in school, with the hopes of sparking widespread conversation surrounding the 62 million girls around the world who are not in school. “I see myself in these girls. I see my daughters in these girls,” she told the crowd. “These girls are our girls, and I simply can’t walk away from them. So, for me, this is truly a moral issue.“
