Mayor Battle to kick off ‘Elect to Adopt’ campaign in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Animal Services is asking the public to help clear the shelter through a new campaign.

On Wednesday at 10 a.m., Mayor Tommy Battle and Animal Services Interim Director Virgie Graham will be at the Huntsville Animal Shelter (HAS) to kick off the ‘Elect to Adpot’ campaign.

The campaign is designed to incentivize the public to help clear the shelter after an increase in pet intakes this summer.

“You’re going to hear a lot about making choices this year, all the way up through November 5,” Graham said. “That’s why we’re asking residents to elect to adopt, not shop, and give loving homes to these great animals.”

The ‘Elect to Adpot’ campaign is part of the larger nationwide campaign called ‘Clear the Shelters.’ This larger campaign will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.

This month, HAS said they will waive adoption fees on most adult pets to help reduce the number of animals in the shelter and find them loving homes.
