Matt Goss claims he was visited by his mum’s spirit after being voted off 'Strictly'

Matt Goss has claimed to have received a comforting message from his late mum after being voted off Strictly Come Dancing.

The Bros singer, 54, was the third celebrity eliminated from this year's Strictly when he and partner Nadiya Bychkova lost their dance off to Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima a week ago.

It was a tough result for Goss, who had recently loved back to the UK after decades in the US and had struggled with harsh comments from judges including Craig Revel Horwood on the BBC One show.

But he has told The Sun that his beloved late mum Carol, who died in 2014, visited him in spirit after he exited the competition.

The Strictly result is pre-recorded late on a Saturday after the live show, but does not air until the Sunday evening, and Goss told how he couldn't bring himself to watch his exit on the Sunday show as he "just wanted to be in my own bubble".

He said: “I was getting streams of messages from people and that night I just lay in the dark listening to music.

“A bag fell off a shelf. And then I said, ‘Mum is that you? If it’s you, can the music stop?’. And then the music stopped. Then it came back on and did it again. It happened about five times.

“I knew it was my mum. It was unbelievable and this incredible, warm feeling came over me. It was a beautiful thing and I knew it was a sign everything would be OK.”

The star tweeted after he was voted off to say that he was "very emotional" at the support he received from fans.

He added: "Strictly was out of my comfort zone but I did gain so much from the experience. This moment alone… reading your comments has given me a sense of deep comfort. It was an incredibly big decision to come back to the UK. Thank you for making me feel like I’m home."

During his time on the show, Goss received some tough critiques, with one of his friends supporting him by criticising Revel Horwood who had given the singer low scores.

Speaking to The Mirror, Rob Ferguson said: "There is no consistency and no correlation between comments versus votes. I’m losing my faith in the legitimacy of BBC’s Strictly."
