Man accused of killing two people on same day in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals Service made an arrest in connection to two separate murders.
According to the NOPD, 31-year-old Earl Simmons was arrested following an investigation into two homicides, both occurring on Saturday, Jan. 6.
Two teens, man arrested in Central Business District double shooting
The NOPD initially reported that the first shooting happened in the 2700 block of Washington Avenue around 6:13 p.m. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 27-year-old Cayla Kelley on Jan. 8.
Officers responded to the other shooting around 10:13 p.m., where officers found that the victim had been shot multiple times. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.
Simmons was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
