Malibu fire damage: Photos capture destruction and firefighters' heroic efforts

Multiple wildfires in California continue to cause deaths, evacuations and heavy damage to homes and property, including in Malibu.

The Palisades Fire began around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and initially burnt nearly 3,000 acres between Santa Monica and Malibu. The uncontrollable blaze, which continued to consume buildings, has wound up burning more than 11,000 acres between the two beach towns.

The Getty Villa, an education center at the easterly end of the Malibu coast in the Pacific Palisades, had trees and vegetation around it burned, but the building itself is intact, Getty officials said in social media posts. The J. Paul Getty Museum, home to Greek and Roman antiquities which are housed in a "re-created Roman country home," will be closed to the public through Monday, according to Getty officials.

Firefighters continue to try and extinguish the wildfires in Malibu, and pictures from the scene not only showcase their heroic efforts, but also capture the destruction caused by a combination of powerful Santa Ana winds, low humidity and dry vegetation.
