Late Little League president honored by naming ceremony in NE Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – County leaders recognized the former Little League president’s legacy by holding a ceremony this weekend.
Chris Melo passed away in 2021, and the community he impacted came together on Saturday.
Fans, friends, and players congregated at the Altamont Little League Fields in northeast Albuquerque for an event dedicated to him. In doing so, officials named the league’s T-Ball field in his honor.

“Chris was one of those few, extraordinary people that you don’t often come across,” stated District 4 Commissioner Walt Benson. “Not only did he go the extra mile time and time again for the young athletes at Altamont Little League, he had an almost Tom Sawyer-like way of convincing people to join him in doing so. But most importantly, he did it all with love, with passion, and with a smile.”
Organizers said Chris Melo brought a hard work ethic to the baseball diamond for every practice.
Additionally, for fun, there was a pick-up wiffle ball game after the ceremonies.
