Lewiston-Porter middle school dismissed early following heating issue
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Lewiston-Porter middle school was dismissed early on Tuesday following a heating issue that left parts of the school below the state minimum temperature, according to Superintendent Paul Casseri.
A backup pump went down Tuesday morning causing a heating issue in a few wings of the school. A parent told WIVB News 4 that some areas of the school got down to as low as 59 degrees. The New York State minimum temperature in schools is 65 degrees.
The district was aware of previous heating issues when the pump went down, Cesseri said. Students were moved to other areas of the building before being dismissed at 12 p.m.
Casseri says the district is working with a contractor to acquire a new heating pump, though it was supposed to be available Tuesday morning.
