Koe Wetzel returns to the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater this fall with Treaty Oak Revival

Koe Wetzel, with Treaty Oak Revival, will play the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater 7 p.m. on Sept. 26. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, through www.ticketmaster.com, or at the venue's box office, at 2710 Jack Warner Parkway in downtown Tuscaloosa. Prices will range from $43 to $83, plus fees and taxes.

The singer-songwriter played the formerly-named Tuscaloosa Amphitheater in October 2021. Since then he's cut 2022 disc, "Hell Paso," on Columbia Records, which went to No. 3 on Billboard country charts.

In a written release, Wetzel said “I did what I wanted to do, This was straight up me. Nobody told me to do this record. We pulled in every genre we were feeling at the time. We spent the last 10 years trying to make this sound...."

Ropyr Madison Koe Wetzel was born to an East Texas touring country singer who'd take her young son along; he first sang on stage at age 6. His stage name is said to be a tribute to outlaw country singer-songwriter David Allen Coe.

He picked up a guitar at 12, but put that aside for sports until college, when his love of football waned. His band Koe Wetzel and the Konvicts cut a 2012 EP, "Love and Lies," after which they toured extensively around the Southwest. The band has since dropped the "Konvicts" name.

After a self-released LP, and two indies, Wetzel signed with Columbia, naming his 2020 big-label debut the tongue-in-cheek "Sellout." That and a previous album, "Harold Saul High," broke into the Billboard 200. He's had three gold singles in "February 28, 2016,” “Something To Talk About,” and “Drunk Driving," with top 40 hits on rock and country charts with "Creeps," "Money Spent," "Cabo" and "Damn Near Normal."

Growing up on hip-hop, rap, rock and country, Wetzel blends influences in often-rowdy sounds featuring explicit language. An interview for American Songwriter quoted him describing it as "... '90s country meets early 2000s punk rock with early ’90s grunge and hip-hop music in the background."

Treaty Oak Revival is a five-man band from west Texas, playing "red dirt country" mixed with punk and Southern rock.
