Former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, was one of the first speakers on the second night of the Democratic National Convention.
During his brief speech, Carter emphasized his grandfather’s legacy of service, and said that Vice President Harris encapsulates that legacy, adding that the former president, nearing 100, was hoping cast his ballot for Harris.
The Democratic National Committee convention is in Chicago through Thursday and on the final day, Harris is scheduled to formally accept the party's nomination for the 2024 Election.

What role he plays: Former President Carter spent his life promoting peace and defending democracy, both at home and abroad. His grandson serves as an emissary of that legacy.
Key quote: "My grandfather can’t wait to vote for Kamala Harris. She reminds us all that the promise of America remains unchanged. We are one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, and my grandfather knows that with her as our next president, we will keep that promise.”
